Last year, a friend told me how stars have started to creep into her companies operations . On a white board in her office, written in big, bold letter was “Days to Avoid Big Decisions” with the dates of Mercury retrograde for the year listed below it.

She told me about her office superstitions and that although, it’s a bit of an exaggeration, her office at least pays attention to the phenomena and dates of cosmic event- Mercury Retrograde !!

This got me thinking…does astrology , namely Mercury Retrograde, really affect Corporate Decisions or Finances ??

What exactly is Mercury Retrograde?

Retrograde means “ moving backward”

According to Classics, “Retrograde motion occurs when a planet, observed from earth, appears to move in reverse direction”. It is essentially giant optical illusion caused by differences in orbit. In astrology, its quite opposite. Retrograde motion has gained a negative connotation , especially, when it comes to one planet i.e. Mercury (commonly known as बुध)

Since Mercury is the fastest planet in our solar system, it enters apparent retrograde three to four times per year. In 2022, those date spans include

• January 14 – February 3
• May 10 – June 3
• September 9 – October 2
• December 29 – January 18

Why has Mercury Retrograde become such a taboo?

The  frequency of mercury retrograde makes it an ideal scapegoat for misfortunes. The common notion among corporates today is that things get little offbeat/weird when the planet is in retrograde.

Mercury retrograde becomes problematic for areas like finances because according to classics mercury rules share market, communication, decision making, judgement and transportation – all of which are closely related to managing and spending money

Corporate Offices are often considered as a mix of different energies such as pressure, jealousy and competition. During this period, it is essential to take time to collect your thoughts and decide what you want to say, as opposed to speaking first and regretting later. When signing a contract, read slowly, take your time and go through it twice.

The same rules applies to all forms of communication – proof read every thing and double check every text. Think and choose your words carefully before making any significant decisions. Also, back up your data as computer crashes, phone and network issues may rise, so in case of any emergency or loss, better  plan alternatives to prevent mishaps. Avoid confrontations and difficult conversations,  avoid over reaction and show open-mindedness and flexibility in changing environment.

Stock Market volatility will be dominant and not a good time to invest on stock markets especially intraday trading or take new investments/trading decisions.

Relationships

During mercury retrograde, don’t let poor communication mess with your partners, team mates and employees, that is what we call in corporate world as office dynamics. Stay Calm and give some space to your entire office and avoid important Business Trips.

During this span, astrology experts recommend clients to take extra time to consider financial decisions. They suggest taking a few weeks, thinking and acting only once the phase of retrograde ends. Even if they don’t act on advice, many are at least aware of the warnings.

But the “obsession” with the astrology does not stop when retrograde does. There are a record number of memes, apps and astrology quizzes circulating all throughout the internet, allowing the clients/people to use the stars as a framework for their everyday lives. Nowadays, any common person can become an amateur astrologists right on their mobile device(s).

So, what can you, or your brand do about the planets, retrograde, etc.?

• Stay alert of the trend;
• Get your finances in order;
• Complete unfinished projects before retrograde period starts.
